What types of drugs were first discovered during WWII that made a huge difference for saving lives?

During WWII there were not very many drug present during that time. Many doctors searched to find medicines that would help our soldiers survive and live on during the war. The first medicine they came along with was M+B 693. This drug was the first sulphonamides that could actually be used for a variety of infections. The article states that “M+B 693 it was used as a treatment for sore throats, pneumonia and gonorrhea.” (History Learning Site, 2012-2013) The next actual drug to be discovered before the war by Sir Alexander Fleming was penicillin. Penicillin had been used in mass on wounded men and was found to be especially effective against the disease of gangrene. But penicillin was used in more ways than one to treat soldiers of the war. The other ways were that penicillin would be used with the dressings on wounds. That way the chance of the wound getting infected would be reduced and their survival chances would be greatly increases. So penicillin has made big strides in the world we live in today. Because we still you this drug in our modern day hospitals to treat patients. If it wasn’t for this discovery of the drug there is no telling where the people of today would be doing, or just how the outcome of WWII would have turned out in the end. I can say that this is one drug that has made history in the world we live in today.
