Even though an individual has not been prescribed Adderall by a doctor, many will take it anyways in order to be able to "concentrate"more effectively in college. This, however, is very risky behavior. Adderall can be very dangerous to those who do not need it and can cause serious and harmful side effects. It is only safe to those who are suffering from ADHD and who follow their prescriptions properly. Adderall contains amphetamine and extroamphetamin, so if one does not have ADHD, it can become habit forming, leading to even more problems (drugs.com, p. 1). It can also cause heart and blood pressure problems, blood vessel problems, or even death. According to the website, Livestrong.com, "When Adderall is taken by a person who does not need it; consequences are dangerous, or even fatal. Such symptoms include: seizures, irregular heartbeat, cardiovascular failure, dangerously high body temperatures, high blood pressure, etc. (p.1). Adderall can also lead to serious mental symptoms as well, such as feeling hostile or paranoid, depression, or even suicidal thoughts if it is taken in higher doses than what is prescribed by a doctor for a particular person, (livestrong.com, p.2). This proves that Adderall should only be taken if one has ADHD and will be able to follow the prescription from their doctor in the correct manor. Otherwise, one will develop serious consequences that can be irreversible.
