Can women take Viagra?

Recently, we have been talking about drugs and how they are advertised to specific target markets. I've always heard that Viagra started out as a heart medication and eventually evolved into a male enhancement drug. The side effect of taking Viagra seemed to outweigh its original purpose. I always see these Viagra commercials directed towards men but why not women? Does Viagra have the same effect on women that is does on men?

You would think that if it improved sexual response in men, that women would feel something similar. In some research, it turns out that women's overall sexual enjoyment after taking this drug was not improved, although their clitoral sensitivity was increased. In most recent research however, women taking Viagra reported sex occurred more frequently and was more enjoyable. Even though Viagra is directed toward men, it is just as safe for women to use it as well.

There is research currently going on to find the women's form of Viagra. Nothing has seemed to make a drastic change in women or has been stable enough in any form of the drug to be released. Numerous women are desperate to take something that will improve their sexual drive and increase desire, so the sooner something is discovered the better.
