Is ecstasy just a club drug?

I wanted to know if ecstasy was just only used as a club drug because I have been hearing it associated only with clubs and raves.  I couldn’t really find anything saying that it’s specifically used for club purposes because people were also using it outside of clubs like house parties and on college campus.  What makes it a popular club drug is because the loud music and the strobe lights enhance the high.  People that use this drug get on the dance floor and dance for hours and hours and their bodies get dehydrated and some have heat stroke.  Users can often be seen with water and pacifiers - items used to counteract side effects of MDMA such as dry-mouth, dehydration, and jaw or teeth-clenching. Lollipops and chewing gum may also be used for the same reasons”.  People also use ecstasy for sexual pleasure because the drug gives them a heightened sensibility.
