Since alcohol is a depressant, how does it make a shy person more outgoing?

Alcohol is a drug that is used in a variety of settings. Alcohol is commonly used for social drinking when people are at a party, at a bar, or at dinner with friends. It is classified as a depressant but in these situations it is known to make people more outgoing. Some people will even consume alcohol before social situations so that they will be more outgoing and social. This doesn’t appear to make sense since we know alcohol is a depressant and that would make us think a person would be less outgoing. How does this work? When alcohol is consumed it goes to the brain and affects the central nervous system. It slows down the functions of the central nervous system including the functions of the brain. Lowering the brains ability causes a person’s inhibitions and thought processing to be slowed so a person is more likely to do things they normally wouldn’t do. In the case of a shy person this makes them more likely to be talkative, say things they normally wouldn’t say, and be perceived as outgoing.
