What are the negative effects to abusing adderall?

Ellen Rehm

Adderall is the most abused prescription drug in America by college students and young adults.  The estimates are that somewhere between 20-30 percent of college students regularly abuse adderall. Abuse of adderall has increased by nearly 200 percent in recent years. It is made of pure amphetamine and called an "upper" because it is increases the sympathetic nervous systems action. In people not diagnosed with ADHD it often, but not always, gives people increased concentration. It also keeps people awake for more hours of studying.

Side affects are numerous, with some being minor and some being more serious. Most users have no clue to the negative side affects. The most negative side affect is an overdose which can cause cardiac/pulmonary arrest, death, and severe and lasting medical defects. Minor side affects anxiety and depression. More serious affects include heart palpations, elevation of blood pressure, Tourette's syndrome, seizures, strokes, and psychotic episodes.
