In the news, I feel as if baseball is the only sport ever
highlighted for its drug use, mainly the use of steroids. I never really understood why they were the
only sport to get publicized with the use of drugs, when there is obvious use
of steroids in other sports. In 1988,
baseball, which is considered America’s favorite past time, was dropping in
ticket sales and appeal in general. This is all because of the Anti-Drug Act in
1988 that banned all anabolic steroids. However, big names brought back the
popularity of the sport. Athletes such as Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were very
helpful in that comeback. However, with the rise of popularity brought back the
use of steroids once again. In order to keep the ticket sales up, the
administration ignored the drug use in the major leagues. This is why there has
been such an issue within the major league baseball realm.
