Is it Illness or the Medication that causes Violence?

As you know, there have been many violent events that have occurred in just this year alone. Everyone is trying to figure out what is causing all the violence. Some say that the guns need to be removed from citizens, and some are saying that it is the person with the gun that is the problem. I personally believe that the person with the weapon is responsible for the crime, and not the gun. Which lead me to start thinking deeper about the person. Does this person have a psychiatric problem? And if they do, are they taking prescription medication to try and treat their problem?
One article that I have found written by Hyla Cass, MD states that they are agreeing with what question I have asked above. They have evidence that 60 minutes reported Adam Lanza to be on medication, but they didn’t follow up on finding out specifically what he was on. Later on in the article, they mention that the environment a person is in can cause them to react violently. Specially talking about video games, in today there are numerous amounts of video games that consist of killing other people.
Another example of proof that prescription drugs are related to shootings, the Virginia Tech shooter who murdered thirty-two people was prescribed the antidepressant drug Prozac prior to his rampage. Another shooter, Jeffrey Weiss was also given Prozac prior to his shooting rampage at a school leaving ten dead and his grandfather. There are many more examples found in this article that suggest that antidepressants are quite related to shootings. So in my personal opinion, I will say that the drugs react with the subject’s problem in a negative way.
